TOURS
Whether you have a whole day to spare or only a few hours, we can show you both the famous, and the hidden charms of Ancient Dover, White Cliffs Country and the County of Kent. Our service offers you the freedom to choose an itinerary that suits your personal interests, time and budget.
This is what we propose…
Begin your tour in the attractive surroundings of Kearsney Abbey with its unique cafeteria, which is all that remains of the Gothic house. Across the road the Manor House (1256) is presently occupied by the Augustinian Nuns.
Continue your tour by stopping in the beautiful Market Square for a coffee at the Old Charles Dickens Cafe. from there on you could continue your visit with a trip to the Famous Dover Castle, one of the most impressive and best preserved castles in England. You may choose to just take photographs of its outer walls or continue your tour by going inside. (Allow at least 2-3 hours if you wish to include the guided tour (Hellfire Corner and the Wartime Tunnels, which is included in the entrance fee.)
The Roman lighthouse (Pharos) still stands 40 feet high in the castle grounds. We follow the Marine Parade road & stop close to the clock tower. This vantage point offers a spectacular view of the white cliffs and castle perched high above the town. Climbing again to the Western Heights (where the second Roman lighthouse stood), we stop by the path to the Grand Shaft, a unique triple spiral staircase cut into the cliffs by the Victorians to connect the army barracks with the town below. Driving back into the centre of town you are free to visit the Roman Painted House, or choose to follow the Historic Town Trail.
Your driver will be pleased to recommend an authentic English Inn in a rural setting should you wish to stop for lunch.
